What exactly is Therapeutic Breathwork?
Therapeutic Breathwork, also known as Transformational Breathwork, Holotropic Breathwork, Rebirthing Breathwork, Conscious Connected Breathwork or Shamanic Breathwork, has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is based upon a psychotherapeutic breathing technique called Holotropic Breathwork that was invented by Psychologists Christina and Stanislav Grof. It uses a specific breathing pattern to access and release stored emotions, memories, and traumas and access non-ordinary states of consciousness with the goal to experience a shift in consciousness, leading to profound healing and personal transformation.
This is a full body somatic therapy where we harness the bodies own wisdom and healing capacities. You may experience big cathartic releases, shaking & other types of physical release from the body.

Why do we do this?
Emotions are energy in motion. They are part of being human and how we experience the world. Emotions are felt as sensations in the body. So when we have big emotional experiences or experience traumatic events in our lives, we experience them through both the mind & body. And if we don’t allow our body to fully feel into the sensations & process them correctly through the body, they become trapped in our cells, muscles, tissues & fascia and often over a long period of time they will develop into chronic pain, illnesses, depression, anxiety, addictions, toxic behaviour patterns & more. We can literally store trauma in our body from the day we are born, right through our entire life.
And this is where the beauty of breathwork comes into play. It is the most accessible & gentle tool we can use to complete these stress cycles in the body & release the years of trapped trauma & emotions we have been carrying in our system. And when we are able to shift & release this trauma and emotion from the body (without the need to talk about it and try and process it through the mind), we then open ourselves up rapid healing & transformation.
This style of breathwork also opens us up to have transcendental experiences which can evoke changes in attitude towards self, others, life, and consciousness; changes in behaviour and ways of thinking; and an increase in life satisfaction, purpose, self-worth, creativity, compassion, and personal power. Studies have also found transcendental experiences of all levels improve the mental wellbeing of people with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and are tremendously helpful for the recovery of drugs, alcohol, and other addictions

In person sessions are facilitated at either a private studio in Lakes Entrance nestled amongst nature or at Breathing Space in Lakes Entrance, depending on day & availability.
Online sessions will be facilitated via zoom & you will need a quiet space in your house where you wont be disturbed.

The initial consultation begins with a chat about your current struggles & your intentions, a breath analysis and some functional breathing tips. I will then determine the best breathing pattern for your session.

Please note that generally the style of breath we use is in the breathwork journey is circular, rythmic breathing in and out through the mouth or nose. This method induces changes to the physiology of the blood, which allows us to journey through different brain wave states and tap into non-ordinary states of consciousness.

This is not pranyama.

This style of breathwork is not suitable for pregnant women, people with heart conditions or severe PTSD. Please ensure you read the breathwork waiver carefully on the booking page or please reach out for a chat if you are unsure if this is suitable for you or not.

Sessions are available in person (Lakes Entrance) and online via zoom. (In person sessions only available Thursdays, Fridays & some Mondays)
